Saturday I carved out a good day for myself

It was hard at first

I drew the outline of a smile and eyes with a pencil

I was uncertain where it should go

I had to erase and start over again a few times

But I decided to stick with the day until I could do it

Two eyes open and a smile

Yesterday Simon wanted to carve a pumpkin

My energy was not as sharp

And traditions felt heavy

But my son just wanted to carve out an awesome Halloween

Some days I have to trick myself into making new memories

It is not always possible but when I can, it is such a treat
