My Words

Do my words feel heavy?

Sometimes I imagine each and every single word is like a cinderblock

I try to pull the words off of me but it feels impossible

Maybe it's the southern drawl of summer heat in October or each bird I see that makes it hard

Or maybe gravity is pulling my words from the sky onto a page which gives them this illusion

And really they are light as raindrops

They fall and sometimes in a downpour, I try to find the places in between the drops that are dry

Or an overhanging ledge where I can get a break from the rain

Because as usual, I left my raincoat at home

And my broken umbrella is in the car

So I decide to just let the words soak my soul and feel the comfort of their unconditional company
